Fancy Fox quilted!

post signature
Can I just say that I love this quilt pattern by Elizabeth Hartman?

I tried to create an hombre look in this quilt.

I used my favorite matryoshka fabric, just a hint of me :)
What am I saying, the whole quilt is me!!!

I quilted this with a woodgrain design which I love so much!
It's not difficult to do, but is very time consuming.

I practiced on a piece of paper first, so I could get the idea of how my hands would guide the fabric with the free motion quilting foot.

Here is a video on my Pinterest board, that really helped me with this woodgrain method of machine quilting.

To make this quilt even more desirable, I backed it with the softest, silkiest minky!
The color is called "cherry".

I made this quilt for my grand daughter Taylor, for her first birthday

I took this quilt with me to Monterrey and Santa Cruz last weekend, in hopes of photographing it by the ocean.
Unfortunately, this is the best I could do.
It could be anywhere, lol!

This one's in my backyard, thanks Ricky!

What's a snuggly quilt without a pillow to match?
I thought Taylor might like the little foxes to match the quilt.
In reality, these are wolves from Aneela Hoey's line, "A Walk in the Woods".
They really look like foxes to me :)

I used some of the fabrics that I used in the quilt.

I don't know if you remember, but I made a blue quilt like this a year ago, which you can find here.
What have I learned from making these two quilts for my grandchildren?
I love the pattern, and want to make a full size one.
I also love all the cute animal quilt patterns that Elizabeth Hartman designs :)
I love my fabric stash, I only had to purchase the minky backing and the binding.
The binding? Yes, I just couldn't find anything in my stash that made me happy.
I have enough fabric in my stash to make about 1,000 more quilts!!
Thank you to all my faithful readers, I love hearing from you!

Fancy Forest quilt

I just love Elizabeth Hartman's quilt patterns!
I made this Fancy Forest pattern in a blue baby quilt size, you can see it here.

I made my grand daughter Taylor, a Hazel Hedgehog quilt when she was born, but she's out grown it.
You can see it here.
I had the idea to make her another quilt for her first birthday.
I like the Fancy Forest quilt so much, that I thought I would do it in pinks and yellows and oranges.
I just didn't think the yellow belonged, I was going for an hombre style, so I divided the pinks and oranges into 5 color groups.

These are the Thistle blocks.

These are the Frances Firefly blocks.

These are the Fancy Fox blocks.
Hey, that rhymes!

These are the Bunny blocks.

These are the Hazel Hedgehog blocks.

These are the Allie Owl blocks.

Here is the finished quilt top, I really love it!
I'm going to back it in a soft minky, and machine quilt it in a woodgrain like I did my blue Fancy Forest quilt.
I hope you enjoyed looking at my blocks, I hope to have the quilt machine quilted this week :)

Fancy Forest is quilted!

I machine quilted and sewed the binding on my Fancy Forest quilt, by Elizabeth Hartman.
I was thinking about different ways I could machine quilt this little quilt for my 13th grandchild, baby Jacob.
I saw this wood design and really loved it!
I watched a few tutorials on how to create the free motion look, did some practice drawing with pen and paper, and was set to go.
I was nervous to start for fear I'd ruin the quilt, but luckily, I didn't ruin it :)

Here is a closeup of the quilting.
To tell you the truth, it wasn't that hard, but my neck got very stiff hunched over the sewing machine for hours.

It probably took about 5 hours of quilting, and a lot of thread!

I used a light gray Aurifil thread.

I backed the quilt with a really soft steel blue minky.
The nap makes the fabric look like it has different shades of color.

The minky fabric melts into the stitches, it has a great effect!

I really want to keep this quilt....but no, I made it for Jacob :)
I hope he falls in love with it and rubs the softness while he sucks his little thumb!
Lol!!!

Fancy Forest by Elizabeth Hartman

I've been wanting to make Elizabeth Hartman's "Fancy Forest" quilt for a while now.
I made the baby quilt, which is just one quadrant of the full size quilt.
The little animals are so cute!
I love the process of choosing fabric and prints, it's one of my favorite parts of making a quilt.
I was able to use the fabric from my stash, except for the background fabric and the black for the eyes and noses.
This is Hazel Hedgehog.

This is Mr. Fancy Fox.

I especially love the 3D looking fabric in this one :)

These are fireflies.
There were a lot of little pieces!

This is Bunny :)

This is Mr. Owl, I hope he doesn't scare the baby, lol!

This is a thistle blossom.

This is my finished quilt.
I'm going to put minky on the back and quilt it myself.
Search for Elizabeth Hartman's quilt online, there are some really pretty ones out there!

By the way, my friend Joni sent this to me.
It's so true!!!
